Hope is Restored!

My doctor appointment went really well.....really, really well!! She is referring me to a fertility specialist and put in for me to have a whole strew of bloodwork done--to check cholesterol, insulin, hormone levels, and several other things. Since we are actively trying, she prescribed me some prenatals and also some meds to help regulate my cycle and stimulate ovulation since we've been trying for almost a year. I'm happier and more hopeful about TTC than I have been in months!!!!! How crazy is it that I'm actually excited about going to the doctor and who knows what else in the upcoming month?!?!?!

They Wonder Why

Jeff called me a couple of minutes ago. He found out that his request for the sami-instructer school was denied....Why?....because he is only on two year orders and his chief told him he would have to extend for one more year for them to allow him to go to that school. Ummmm....that would be a big fat NO.....we have less than 18 months left in the service and as of right now we're not planning on staying in!!!!! His chief then asked Jeff if he was gonna re-enlist and Jeff promptly told him no. His chief actually asked why!! Are you kidding me? Like Jeff told him....all of this was a prime example....Jeff put in the request for this school back in December and it's almost March and he's just now getting a reply.....and it's a bullshit reason, if you ask me. Some days I can't wait for him to get out!!!!

To the Doctor I Go

I just spent the past 20 minutes writing down important dates from my monthly cycle for the last three months. Why, you ask? I have my annual check-up this afternoon (oh joy) which is loooong overdue, and since I've been using the ovulation tests and charting my cycle the past several months, I've noticed some abnormalities which I think might be one of the reasons we're having problems getting pregnant. Needless to say, I plan on getting some answers cause ten months of trying for a baby is really starting to get to me!

In other news Jessica has been entertaining us with the "What's this" game even though she already knows exactly what it is she is asking about....so funny! I've been busy planning and packing for our trip on Sunday. I'm so excited!!!....still a little nervous about the plane ride, but I've already gathered together most of the stuff for our carry-on--wipes, several pull-ups, a change of clothes for both of us, a few quiet toys, a couple of her favorite books, crayons and a coloring book, her flash cards that she loves so much and a new puzzle toy she hasn't even seen yet. Hopefully, all this will keep her entertained for the two hour flight!

I haven't written the past several days since Facebook has been keeping me pretty occupied. I'm officially addicted to it and actually am enjoying it better than myspace....seems a lot more mature....and more people too.

Mom and Dad's visit was great but way too short...only two days. We ate out several times and spent a lot of time shopping. Of course, we had the most fun playing putt-putt golf. The last time Jeff and I had played was when I was pregnant with Jessica, so this was her first experience with it....one we're defenitely gonna repeat cause she loved it!!!!! She 'assigned' us all different colored balls, and, of course, she chose a yellow ball for herself. We all took turns helping her putt and she quickly caught on to how the game was played....so much so that when we would hit our balls, she would run down the course and either move our balls closer to the hole or go ahead and put it in the hole for us! It was hilarious!!!! Needless to say, we quit keeping score after the fourth hole! We had a blast! However, Jessica got really bummed out when the golf balls went into the last hole and she realized we weren't getting them back. She buried her head in my shoulder and cried for all of two minutes until she found something else to occupy her attention. I love that girl! Mom and Dad left Sunday morning and I miss them already......

....BUT.....Jessica and I now each have a plane ticket for March 1st heading non-stop to Nashville. Karla's gonna meet us at the airport and Mom and Dad will drive us down to Scottsboro. I'm so excited!!! I get to see everyone.....AND Grandma Kathy... for two weeks!!!!! TWO WHOLE WEEKS!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! I already told Cherisa she will have to use her back-up childcare during that time. My only worry is how Jessica will do on the 2 hour flight. I've already told her that we're gonna fly on a 'hairpane' and she is more excited than I am about that aspect of our trip....any tips or advice on air travel with a toddler? Anyone?

YUMMY!!!!!!!!

This is my Valentines gift from Jeff that actually arrived yesterday....a bouquet of chocolate covered fruit courtesy of Edible Arrangements....an assorment of strawberries, apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, and pineapple all dipped in a delicious gourmet dark chocolate. IT'S DELICIOUS!!!!! My favorites are the oranges and bananas! It's only been in our house less than 24 hours and if you can notice in the pictures, it's already half gone; however, in my defense, mom did help me out with that! Jeff was surprised that I actually shared it!

Hope everyone had a happy valentines!!

A Better Mood

I finally managed to shake that funky mood I've been carrying aroung all week. My husband is so amazing for putting up with me this whole time. Writing stuff down seemed to help, and a lot of that stuff needed to be put out there anyway. I don't know....people have been frustrating me lately. Friends seem so hypocritical and others aren't realizing that their actions have consequences and how it affects others around them. You give them an inch and they take a mile....errrr, there I go again.....

Of course, having Jessica finally want to pose for pictures did wonders for brightening my mood earlier. Instead of saying "cheese," she kept saying "peek-a-boo!" And my camera actually behaved itself. I can't believe I've gone so long without taking her picture. I defientely gotta start taking more pics of her, especially if she's gonna be so cooperative....and my camera for that matter. Maybe for our anniversary, I'll finally get that new one I've been wanting.

FINALLY!

I finally brought my camera out after months of not using it since I despise it soooo much...no, I haven't got a new one yet...hopefully soon though.... and to my surprise Jessica actually wanted me to take pictures of her....she even posed! I think I got some cute ones of her!

Teenagers and Parenthood

What kind of parent leaves their young toddler inside the house unattended so that he/she can go outside for a smoke? Anything could happen--the child could stick their finger in a light socket, crawl into the bathroom and go head first into the toilet, or....even pull a lamp on top of themself.

What kind of parent puts his/her young children in a car without safety seats--reguardless of who's driving or how far they were planning to go?

What kind of parent keeps his/her child up till 11:00 at night just so they can sleep in and then chastises the child for being fussy and irritable when obviously the child is only acting like that because he/she is tired and needs to go to sleep? Didn't Britney Spears get a lot of crap over this same issue?

And then in the morning bring the wide-awake child into bed with them while they fall back asleep....where the child could easily crawl off the bed and become injured?

What kind of parent goes to the doctor immediately when he/she is sick, but yet, won't take his/her own child--who has been sick for several days--to the doctor? And, yes, I know that here lately doctors are very reluctant to give prescription medicine to young children, but if something has been going on for several days and is obviously not getting any better, wouldn't a responsible parent at least take her child in to get an opinion from a medical professional?

What kind of parents are too lazy to clean their house...so lazy that unwahed dishes sit in the sink or on the computer desk for so long that they start growing mold? They do know that mold can become an air-born pathogen, right? And this can cause health problems, such as asthma, in a young child.

What kind of parents would do this, might you ask? Let me tell you....teenage parents. These are all events or expereinces I have either seen myself or heard about from reliable sources that different parents I know have done. Some are teenagers and some started out as teenage parents but are now several years older....in my opinion, the worst of the two are the ones who have had time to become better parents, but yet, several years later they still haven't learned to make smart, responsible decision reguarding their children.

Why do teenagers make such bad parents...my opinion is...and this might hurt some feelings, but it's my blog...enough said. The number one reason why teenagers do not make good parents is because they do not know how to put their children's needs before their own....in esscense, they are self-centered--as most teenagers are. They do what they want when they want even if it's not in the best interest for their child. They do whatever will make them happy or more comfortable reguardless of how it will affect their child. They put their needs and wants first...before anyone else...even their own child. In doing and thinking like this, teenage parents make stupid, irresponsible....and in my opinion....crappy decisions and choices involving their children which can put the child's health and/or safety at risk.

Some teenagers think it's all fun and games to start a family this early, but they don't realize how difficult being a parent can actually be and the responsibility that goes along with it. I think there are very few teenagers out there who are mature enough to realize that when you have a baby, your life...your schedule...your choices and decisions now revolve around that child....not the other way around. Now I'm not doubting that they don't love their children...I know all the parents I'm thinking about while writing this love their children just as much as I love my own; however, unlike me or other mature responsible parents, teenage parents do not put their child's needs or wants above their own which, again, making decisions involving your child based on your own wants and/or needs can and will put your child's health and/or safety at risk. Even some of the teenage parents who are now several years older....who have had time to grow, learn, and mature....have still failed to realize this fact.

Of course, not all teenage parents are like this; there are a few out there who are good parents or learned and became good parents, so I feel like I should speak out on their behalf. I have a very close friend who I have known for many, many, many years....she is a year younger than me and already has three kids....growing up, I never would have imagined that she would have that many before I would, LOL! She did begin parenthood as a teenage mom and it was rough the first couple of years, but now she is one of the most amazing mothers I know. Actually, she is one of the two people I call (the other would be my sister) when I need advice concerning my own child or have questions about parenthood.

What is even crazier about the majority of these teenage parents is that they actually think they are some of the best parents out there....the world's greatest mom or dad! They don't understand why society views them as such bad parents....why adults think teenagers should not be parents....like the world has some sort of hidden agenda to give teenage parents a bad rap....sorta baffles the mind, doesn't it? Just because you can have sex and procreate does not make you a responsible adult.....or even a good parent.

Carpooling

I usually don't post a lot of personal relationship problems on here, whether it is with our marriage or problems between relatives and/or friends simply because 1) I would rather spend time writing about positive aspects and events in our lives rather than negative ones, and 2) most of the time I don't feel like it is the entire cyber-world's business....but this one issue has been bothering me and actually kept me up for a while last night....so much info going round and round in my head makes for a restless night. Maybe it will help to put it out there and hopefully get some advice on it. Be prepared--it's probably gonna be a long one.

For the better part of last year, Jeff carpooled into work with a friend....actually his friend, Jeremie, who happened to be renting our extra bedroom at the time. Jeff never paid him any gas money; however, they both benefited from the situation. You see, Jeremie didn't help out with groceries all that much...looking back, I think he only gave us money for groceries about 3-4 times in the eight months he lived with us, and every now and then he would bring in a gallon of milk and/or some cereal or lunchmeat and bread, which even though we appreciated it, it honestly didn't go that far considering how much Jeff and I spent every paycheck for groceries to feed all of us. At one point we asked him if he could help out more with that expense around the house especialy since I planned and cooked decent meals for dinner several times a week, and he got bent out of shape because as he pointed out that Jeff got a free ride to work with him every day and that was saving us money on gas, so in his opinion it was fair that he didn't have to help out with groceries that much. In all honesty...he was right, so we let the subject drop. Even though it wasn't strictly a carpooling arrangement, they both financially benefited from the situation: we saved money on gas since Jeff rode to work with Jeremie every day and Jeremie saved a good bit of money on food since we paid for the majority of the gorceries in the house.

Jeremie moved out in December, and they have actually been using our car for transportaion to and from work almost every day since the end of October. One reason for the vehicle switch was because Jeremie got rid of his Ford Expedition and bought an old classic--one that he's had a lot of problems with....so much so that it very unreliable and he would rather not drive it the 20-40 minutes it takes just to get to Portsmouth where they work...but seriously, how smart is it to buy a vehicle....the only vehicle you have....and it's one you can't even depend on enough to drive yourself to work....not very smart if you ask me....but that's just my opinion.

Anyway....now that I've gotten sorta off topic....during the past couple of months, Jeremie has not once offered to help with gas expenses, so about a week ago, Jeff finally asked Jeremie if he could help pay for gas. Not to mention that this past week, they have also solely been using our vehicle to go to the gym to work out several times. And even though they had a day off of work yesterday which would have saved us on gas, Jeremie asked Jeff to drive him over to Portsmouth for a dental appointment even though Jeremie has his own car....but yet again, it's one that he won't drive all too often for one reason or another. Jeff--being the nice person that he is--said he would, and when I found out, I told Jeff...in very sarcastic tone, might I add...that I didn't suppose that Jeremie was going to offer any gas money for the trip since they both knew it would have been a day that Jeff wouldn't have made that drive, and of course, I was right.....no gas money. Did I mention that when Jeff asked Jeremie to help out with gas money, Jeremie didn't really say yes or no....he just gave Jeff this look like I can't believe he's asking me this....the bad thing is....I feel that if Jeff pushes the issue with Jeremie helping out with gas expenses, Jeremie will get so bent out of shape that he'll just quit riding into work with him...which is fine if he chooses to do so...it looks like we'd be stuck paying for gas whether Jeremie was riding....or is it suppose to be carpooling....with Jeff or not....but I think it would be a pretty crappy move on his part...to leave things like that...especially since I know that if the shoe were on the other foot, Jeremie would want to be benefitting from the advantages of carpooling if it were his car they were using constantly and his money that always paid for the gas.

I don't understand...they both financially benefited from the previous arrangement even though it was with different expenses, but now the only person who is benefitting from the current arrangement is Jeremie. In my opinion it feels like Jeff is running a cheoffer service rather than participating in a carpooling arrangement.

The reason all of this is bothering me so much is because Jeff and Jeremie have been friends for five years now, and they're friendship has already been stressed the past several months for other reasons I'm not gonna get into right now....well, maybe I will...at least some of it anyway. Jeff and I welcomed Jeremie into our home for eight months. We wouldn't have done that for just anyone and we never got so much as a thank-you.....added to it that Jeremie's girlfriend basicly lived with us for a short period of time last fall even though she had her own place....sleeping here every night, eating with us, taking showers, and doing her laundry.....it was fun to begin with, but when the days turned into weeks and then into a month, our utility bills started going up and Jeff and I were having to go out and buy more groceries. We realized that we were essentially providing for a whole other person with our already tight budget, so we told Jeremie that if she was going to continue staying over here...or living with us....whatever you want to call it....either she or him had to help out with the extra costs. Obviously they didn't agree with us cause she quit coming over as much, and then almost all together for a while which was due to a whole other reason...one that I'm definetely not gonna get into right now!

WOW...ok, now that I'm done with my rant and sorta off topic, yet again...back to the carpooling....even after all that, Jeremie seems to have a problem with helping Jeff out with gas money which I don't think should be an issue since they do take our vehicle every day. They both benefited from the previous arrangement, so I don't think it's too much to ask that Jeremie pay Jeff some gas money so that they can both benefit from the current arrangement....of course it would only be considered carpooling if all parties involved split the cost of gas; therefore, making it cheaper for everyone involved.

Jeff and I are both SO non-confrontational, and I do believe that Jeff would just let the subject drop all together if it wasn't for me harping on him about it, but....I don't know....Jeff is my husband...I get protective of him when I feel like someone is taking advantage of him, just as he does me. And I do feel like Jeremie has taken advantage of their friendship before and is currently doing so right now--whether it is intentionl or not.

This turned out to be so much longer than I expected and obviously there are other issues involved than just the carpooling, but that happens to be the current one. Am I wrong? I don't feel as though I am, but I'm still not sure how to proceed cause I don't want Jeff to lose a good friend over something as trivial as carpooling; however, I do know that something has to change cause I feel like we've been taken advantage of by friends too often lately, and I don't want that to continue. Advice...help...anyone?
